<image:caption>Creatine Supplementation: Hype vs. Facts In all my years as a trainer, practitioner and researcher I have found very few supplements that give the bang for the buck. Creatine is on my short list of absolutely WORTHWHILE supplements. Creatine works by increasing the amount of phosphocreatine stored in your muscles, which helps regenerate ATP, the body’s main energy source for quick, high-intensity efforts. This means your muscles and even your brain has more readily available energy to perform, recover, and adapt.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Quieting the Inner Critic Through Improvisation We all have that inner critic that second-guesses, overanalyzes, or talks us out of taking action. What’s fascinating is that science shows improvisation can literally quiet that voice in the brain. In fMRI studies of jazz musicians and freestyle rappers, researchers found that when people improvise, activity in the brain’s self-monitoring centers (the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex) drops, while regions linked to self-expression and creativity light up.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Cold Showers: 1,000 Days of just doing it and why you should consider it too. Ever since I can remember, I hated getting in cool or cold water almost as much as I hate early morning wake-ups. As a kid, I complained so much that my mom actually took me out of my morning swim lessons. So what I am about to say is quite strange for me… July marks an anniversary: three years (over 1,000 days) of taking a cold shower or cold water dip EVERY. MORNING. This is one of the first things I do each day, and I haven’t missed a day yet. To be clear: this is not a brag, it’s a moment to reflect on the changes that have occurred in me.</image:caption>

If you’re planning to sell a business, unwind a big stock position, or trigger a meaningful capital gain sometime in the next few years, there’s a strategy worth knowing about that can potentially decrease your tax liability dramatically. Most people think tax planning starts AFTER a major event, when it comes time for tax filings.</image:title>

<image:caption>Although I didn’t begin reading Carl Jung’s work in depth until my late 30s, I realized his ideas had been showing up in my life much earlier. Mostly through the lyrics, music, and art that shaped me. One of the biggest influences was Maynard James Keenan of TOOL, whose work often echoed Jungian themes, even if I didn’t fully recognize them at the time. But it wasn’t until the prolonged pressure and existential weight of midlife truly set in that I began to engage with Jung’s writing on a deeper level. In his autobiography, Memories, Dreams, Reflections, Jung’s own life story revealed parallels that felt strikingly similar to my own experience. What I found was a mirror to my own musings.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The orientation of all of nature to that which is difficult. Many years ago, I read Letters to a Young Poet by Rainer Maria Rilke. Of every brilliant line in that book that I could possibly glean wisdom from, this passage sticks with me to this day. “It is clear that we must trust what is difficult; everything alive trusts in it, everything in Nature grows and defends itself any way it can and is spontaneously itself, tries to be itself at all costs and against all opposition. We know little, but that we must trust in what is difficult is a certainty that will never abandon us.”</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - April 2025 - Did you know you can earn TAX FREE INTEREST on an often overlooked investment option? When evaluating fixed income options, interest rates aren't the whole story—tax treatment matters just as much, especially for high earners. It's not always "how much you make, it's how much you keep," right? Municipal bonds offer federally tax-free interest (and often state tax-free too if you own a bond in the state in which you live.) This can make their real return more attractive than what appears on paper. For investors comparing options like CDs or money markets, which are taxable, munis may provide a better after-tax yield, depending on your tax bracket.</image:title>

But as my wife and I began growing our family and I started a business, I wanted to cover the risks that could crush us financially while we were still trying to get ourselves established. You hate to think only of the worst-case scenarios, but I also created this strategy to build long-term financial security in small, intentional ways. We bought permanent, cash-building life insurance for our kids to provide a layer of protection and a tool for saving. There were a few specific reasons that made this decision feel smart and practical for our family:</image:title>

<image:caption>FISH OIL FOR TREATING DEPRESSION!? Yes, it’s true. Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish oil, are well-known for their benefits to the brain, heart, and overall health. But one lesser-known advantage is their potential to help with depression—something I found particularly compelling. So this month, I wanted to dig into those benefits a little deeper. Fish oil is one of those supplements where I don’t always notice a big difference when I’m taking it, but I definitely feel it when I stop. If I had to pick one of the top supplements that packs the most bang for the buck, it’s Fish Oil. But not just any fish oil - a high-quality, third-party tested brand (which I have linked to below.) Make sure if you buy it you pay close attention to dosage and quality. The research on its mental health benefits convinced me to reevaluate my approach, and I’ve outlined some of the key findings including the dosage needed to see improvements. (Reminder: I’m not a medical professional, and this isn’t medical advice. Just sharing research that I found interesting and potentially useful. Always check with your doctor before adding new supplements to your routine.)</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - February 2025 - TAXES ARE A DRAG! How your investments are taxed can DRAIN Your wallet! Find out how —> Click here to schedule a free assessment if you’re unsure about how much tax you’re paying on your investments. “Tax Drag” & Why It Matters Taxes can quietly chip away at your investment returns—a hidden cost known as tax drag. This happens when capital gains, dividends, and interest trigger tax liabilities, reducing your overall earnings. Many investors focus on pre-tax returns, but the real goal should be maximizing after-tax returns. We work with Investment partners that have spent over 35 years developing tax-managed strategies designed to help investors keep more of what they earn. How Taxes Impact Your Investments Every decision you make in your portfolio—whether it’s buying a stock, selling one or switching funds, or rebalancing— can create taxable events if you’re investing outside a Qualified Account (IRAs & 401(k)s. The cost of which is not calculated until you get your 1099 at the end of the year. Selling stocks or funds at a profit leads to capital gains taxes, and frequent portfolio adjustments can result in higher short-term tax rates. Without proper tax management, these ongoing tax hits can significantly lower your long-term growth potential. While a statement of market returns can look attractive in the years like we most recently had, the tax bill could look quite scary - but are you connecting the dots between the two?</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - February 2025 - Rick Rubin’s The Creative Act: A Way of Being isn’t just a book—it’s an experience. Rather than offering a step-by-step guide to being creative or productive, Rubin presents a collection of reflections that read almost like proverbs that beg for reflection. They invite the reader to explore creativity as a way of life and not just a skill to be honed. He breaks down the creative process not as something exclusive to artists, but as a universal force that anyone can tap into. Through simplicity, awareness, and presence, he teaches that creativity isn’t about forcing ideas; instead opening yourself to receive them. As an artist and musician, I’ve always seen the world through the lens of creativity—sometimes without even realizing it. Writing and music have been my way of capturing personal experiences and emotions and shaping them into something others can connect with.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - January 2025 - “The easy path leads to a crowded place.” Scott Belsky from his book The Messy Middle. Scott’s book gave me a lot of validation about the quiet, dark, and challenging middle days of entrepreneurship. When the initial fire that gets you started wears off and long before a potential finish line to run victoriously over is in sight, you have the long journey through the messy middle. This is the period that is reflected in movies with a 2-minute montage, when in reality, it’s the longest, most grueling part of the process, and not accompanied by motivational music. For those of you in the messy middle, this book is a great read and highly recommended. And if you need an ally to bounce ideas off of, I’m here for that too.</image:title>

<image:caption>No matter who you are or what your health goals are, when it comes to your diet, knowing WHAT to eat is HARD. Knowing HOW MUCH to eat is even HARDER. But of all the resources I have come across in the last 20 years, the most effective tool I have used for tracking and balancing diet and nutrition is the Carbon Diet Coach App. TO BE CLEAR - It’s not a “diet” - it’s a tracking app. You can eat in line with your preferences or diet restrictions. Doesn’t matter if it’s keto, vegetarian, paleo, intermittent fasting, etc. It’s just a tracker to help you know how much to eat and in what ratios. It has a barcode scanner to easily log your food and coaches available to answer questions. IMO it’s more user friendly, flexible to lifestyle and dietary preferences, cheaper and more accurate than others like MyFitness Pal or even the RP App.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - January 2025 - Did you know? You can receive up to $5000 in tax credits if you’re an eligible business owner looking to start a retirement savings plan for your business. This can offset many of the start-up costs associated with implementing one. The value is not only in the tax credits but also in helping your employees save for retirement because many don’t do it for themselves. This is also a great way to build goodwill and retention. Let me know if you’re interested in learning more. From IRS website - Eligible employers may be able to claim a tax credit of up to $5,000, for three years, for the ordinary and necessary costs of starting a SEP, SIMPLE IRA or qualified plan (like a 401(k) plan.) A tax credit reduces the amount of taxes you may owe on a dollar-for-dollar basis.</image:title>
